People of all ages and all backgrounds have been attending book clubs for hundreds of years. And in today’s world of high technology, the internet, and instant gratification, book clubs are actually more popular than ever for a variety of reasons. And it’s not just a place for bookworms to pursue their favorite hobby! According to results seen in various studies that were cited in an article in the journal Science in 2013, there are six very important benefits seen in adults taking part in a book club: reading is a stress reliever; it helps to keep your brain in shape, which in turn can help prevent Alzheimer’s; reading can help you sleep better; it can help you be more empathetic; and reading can ease the effects of depression.
Each month our book club chooses one novel to read and then meet to discuss it. Book Club takes place on the second Saturday of each month at 11:00 a.m. You can see which book that has been chosen on the site’s home page and on our Facebook page. If you’re interested in joining and need a copy of the book, please contact the library! Most books are available in hardcover, paperback, and audio versions. Looking forward to seeing you at the library!
